Black and Tan Female
Meet Jewel, a cheeky, outgoing black & tan female pomeranian puppy (not registered). Jewel is a complete character, she has the sassy pom attitude through and through. She was born and has been raised in the living room, as part of the family. We're retired so puppies get lots of attention while they're growing up and we focus on preparing them to be a valued part of the family. We raise our puppies without the use of cages, kennels or fences (we provide a crate for their comfort and use as a bed/den) but they expect to be part of the family, not locked away in a crate or kennel. We put in a lot of time and effort to raise puppies that are well prepared to transition into their new homes. Jewel has learned how to safely navigate puppy stairs to the stool and sofa, and can locate the food and water dishes when moved to various locations around the house. She has been started on a potty patch for indoor potty training, which we have found to be particularly effective in house training puppies. Jewel loves to give loads of puppy kisses, enjoys being held for snuggle time and is actively trying to figure out how to access laps unassisted. She is fearless, bold and courageous, not aggressive or bad tempered, but does not take a back seat either. Pomeranians are wonderful dogs, but as with all breeds are not suited to every home. As a small toy sized dog they are not suitable pets for small children and cannot be handled roughly. Poms cannot live outdoors, although they often enjoy having a safely fenced yard to play in. Pomeranians are known to be bossy and train their owners to do things their way. Obedience training from a young age is a wonderful idea for poms, since they can easily turn into little tyrants if left to their own devices. Poms have a double coat that should not be shaved. They shed the thick undercoat once or twice a year, and brushing daily during this phase will greatly reduce the mess and speed up the process. The rest of the year, brushing once or twice a week and the occasional 'sani trim' will keep them looking their best. Contrary to popular belief dogs do not need regular bathing, which strips their coat and skin of essential oils and other elements. Bathing should be reserved for times when it is absolutely necessary, not more than once monthly with a gentle castille soap. Pomeranians don't have any special dietary needs, digestive issues are not common to the breed, so any high quality, balanced food should be fine. We prefer dry food as we feed free choice. The brand we use is Canadian Naturals Turkey and Salmon Small Bites formula, it is easily available, Canadian made and all of our dogs like it. We haven't experienced any issues with obesity or resource guarding in our pack, and have found that this feeding method results in dogs that are not prone to resource guarding later in life. Congratulations on getting all the way through the ad! Bringing a new puppy into your home is not something to be undertaken lightly and it's important that you are willing to put in the effort to make sure your new puppy is going to be the right choice for you, your family and the puppy. If you decide that a pom is not the right breed for you, there are many wonderful breeds out there and so many amazing breeders that want nothing more than to raise puppies to bring love and joy to their new families!!!
